Important Notice: 2013 Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Payment Adjustment Hardship Exemption Requests Accepted Until 11:59 PM EST July 2, 2012

Due to scheduled web maintenance, eligible professionals will be unable to access the Communication Support Page to submit requests for significant hardship exemptions to the 2013 Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program payment adjustment beginning at 8:00 PM EST on Friday, June 29, 2012 until 11:59 PM EST on June 30, 2012.

Because this maintenance directly impacts the June 30, 2012 deadline, The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services is extending the submission date for hardship exemptions until 11:59 PM EST on July 2, 2012.

The Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Records (EHR) Incentive Programs Registration and Attestation System will be affected by planned system maintenance starting Friday, June 29, 12:00 AM ET, through Monday, July 2, 7:00 AM ET. Throughout this maintenance window, eligible professionals and eligible hospitals will not be able to register or attest for the EHR Incentive Programs.

Secretary Sebelius Recognizes MUVers and Regional Extension Centers at Health IT Vanguard Conference

At the Health IT Vanguard Conference on June 18, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius praised early adopters of EHRs for pushing the entire health care system forward from the front of the pack.

Secretary Sebelius noted that EHR use has doubled in the last three years, and is on pace to triple. Members of the Meaningful Use Vanguard (MUVers) are “shining examples of that progress.”

4,277 Providers In California Receive $413,459,380 Under EHR Incentive Programs

More than 100,000 health care providers have been paid under the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) announced today.  Of those, 4,277 eligible providers in California have received $413,459,380 in payments.

HITEC-LA Helps Los Angeles County Health Care Providers Qualify for EHR Incentive Payments

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA – HITEC-LA announced that Medi-Cal Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program payments are now being sent out to eligible professionals.  Starting this month, checks of up to $21,250 are being mailed out to providers in L.A.

Action Required to Avoid 1.5% E-Prescribing Penalty in 2013

The deadline to apply for an e-prescribing exemption for 2013 is June 30, 2012. Medicare’s e-prescribing program provides payment incentives for physicians who e-prescribe and payment penalties for physicians who do not. In 2012, Medicare imposed a 1 percent payment reduction penalty on all Medicare allowed charges for eligible professionals who did not electronically transmit their prescriptions in the first six months of 2011. The penalty increases to 1.5 percent in 2013 and 2 percent in 2014.

HITEC-LA Service Partner Reaches Milestone of Delivering $1 Million in EHR Assistance to L.A. County Primary Care Providers

AMS free technical assistance helps eligible health care providers meaningfully use electronic health records to improve quality of care.

LOS ANGELES – HITEC-LA announced that All Medical Solutions (AMS), one of its Service Partners, achieved a major milestone of delivering over $1 million in technical assistance to 650 HITEC-LA member health care providers.  HITEC-LA’s goal is to help 3,000 eligible primary care providers in Los Angeles County implement and meaningfully use certified electronic health records (EHRs) by 2014.

More and more health providers across the country are making the commitment to improve patient care by trading in their old paper records for electronic health records (EHRs), according to a recent blog entry on HealthITBuzz. Their commitment and hard work is paying off. During the month of April alone, more than 17,000 eligible professionals and 280 eligible hospitals received payments under the EHR Incentive Programs.
